King's races past Toledo TOURNEYTOWN.COM Berendsen leads Knights to 52-31 first-round victory Daniel Berendsen scored a game-high 13 points to lead sixth-ranked King's past Toledo 52-31 in the first round of the Class 1A boys state tournament Wednesday. Ryan Hoff chipped in 12 points as the Knights (20-6) slowly kept extending their lead. King's shot 44 percent (21 of 48) from the field while the Indians (16-8) made just 24 percent (11 of 46). Each team had 18 turnovers, but King's managed 10 steals and converted the Toledo miscues into 18 points. Berendsen pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds as the Knights managed a 41-32 rebounding advantage. David Wallace paced Toledo with seven points. King's topples Spartans TOURNEYTOWN.COM Karl Clocksin scored a game-high 20 points to lead sixth-ranked King's over No. 2 Granger 68-61 in a Class 1A boys state tournament quarterfinal game Thursday. Daniel Cheledinas and Ryan Hoff each added 16 points for the Knights (21-6), who took a six-point lead at halftime and never let the Spartans get closer than five points in the second half. Brandon Oswalt led the Spartans (23-1) with 14 points and Mitchell Zapien, who leads the team with a 20-point average, added 12 before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Clocksin grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked three shots. The Knights' offense converted 49 percent (25 of 51) of its shots while Granger made just 37 percent (22 of 60).
