King’s girls basketball coach Dan Taylor helped guide an all-star Washington girls basketball team to a 97-74 victory over Oregon in the 24th annual Northwest Shootout Sunday, April 15 at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon

Among the players for Washington were Lake Stevens’ Kylee Griffin and Lexie and Lacie Hull from Central Valley, who recently won a national championship. The Washington roster included nine Division 1 recruits.

“I was joking with the other coaches that I would be able to coach that much talent unless I got a Division 1 job,” Taylor said.

Most of the Washington players participated in the all-state game recently hosted at King’s High School, so Taylor was familiar with them.

“We had great team chemistry,” he said. “I was able to see their skill set and they had the opportunity to play with each other.”

The players and Taylor gathered for three practices prior to Sunday’s game. Taylor split the playing time equally for the first 30 minutes of the game and then went with the top players for the final 10 minutes. Washington went on a 16-0 run to pull out the victory.

“It was an amazing opportunity to see how they gelled,” Taylor said. “It was a good celebratory event to commemorate all the great things they did at the high school level.”
